Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 140:25–27

"The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death."

Who are we?

We come from all walks of life, we are…

…IT professionals, engineers, carers, parents, grandparents, homeschoolers, artists, scout leaders, legal professionals, administrators, teachers, musicians and more.

What do we believe?

We believe that God is Love and we are made in His image and likeness. The more we understand our relation to God the more we can feel His healing love. We follow the teachings of Christ Jesus to guide us everyday. We believe in the power of prayer to heal every kind of problem, whether this be financial, physical or moral.

The Tenets of Christian Science

Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, was asked if Christian Scientists had a religious creed. She answered, “They have not, if by that term is meant doctrinal beliefs” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 496–497). She did provide a few tenets—or key points—that briefly summarize the teachings of Christian Science. They are rooted in the Bible.

  1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.

  2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God’s image and likeness.

  3. We acknowledge God’s forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts.

  4. We acknowledge Jesus’ atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man’s unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.

  5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.

  6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure.

What is Christian Science?

Christian Science teaches the ever-present law of God, good which is operating throughout the universe. This is a universal law available to all and it is the same law that Jesus understood which enabled him to heal the sick. This law is still in operation today and Christian Science is our spiritual toolbox that enables us to understand how we can demonstrate healing for ourselves and others and live our lives more harmoniously at one with God.

What is Science and Health?

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is Mary Baker Eddy’s primary work. It is the definitive explanation of Christian Science as revealed to Mrs. Eddy through prayer, inspiration, studying the Bible, and healing. It was first published in 1875 and over 10 million copies have been sold worldwide. It has been translated into numerous languages and just by simply reading the truths It has bought healing and harmony to countless readers.

Science and Health is the textbook of Christian Science and is read alongside the Bible every week. Excerpts from the Bible and Science and Health make up the weekly sermon.

Who is Mary Baker Eddy?

From New England, USA, 1821-1910, Mary Baker Eddy described herself as a Christian Discoverer, Founder, and Leader.

She grew up in a large family on a farm in Concord, New Hampshire.  As devout members of the Congregational church, the Bible was read and discussed at home from her childhood.  Mary was a caring, prayerful child and often helped people and animals around her with her simple prayers and faith in God’s goodness.

As an adult, Mary’s life was hard. Often ill, widowed early, being a single mother then having a difficult 2nd marriage tested her faith. She persisted in her search for health and harmony in her life, studying the healings in the Bible and investigating various methods of healing.  All material methods let her down.  Following an injury in 1866 Mary was not expected to live.  At this point she turned again to her Bible and while reading one of Jesus’ healings she gained a spiritual view of Life as God which completely and instantly healed her.

For the next 4 decades of her life Mary worked to clarify the Science of Christianity which she had glimpsed.  She wrote, prayed, healed others, taught others to heal and established the Church of Christ, Scientist to continue this work for humanity.
